“My girlfriend doesn’t know I’m at the pre-release she thinks I’m at work”
“Whatever you do don’t tell her you play magic, tell her you have a hobby that she will never know nothing about”
These words came from the mouth of a friend, these word reflect a reality, my reality as well as others, probably yours too. Women have a tendency to discard magic as something useless, something little boys are allowed to play with but by any means not men.
It doesn’t matter if everything else you do in your life suggests that you are mature enough, you play magic, you are immature, get over it. Fighting over magic seems ridiculous to me but still that doesn’t stop it from happening, I laugh out loud when I hear people’s stories about how their girlfriends treat magic as a disease, how they feel threatened by it as if it was some other woman monopolizing your interest.
Maybe we should’ve turned to other women, casino or even drugs, maybe that would have been a lesser evil they would have to deal with. But they can’t compete with magic, it’s something they just don’t understand. Men are competitive , they like to play games and they like to win , they also like to have fun with their friends, and if it means using your wits while doing it all the better. That’s all there is to it, having fun while competing. Women don’t have to understand magic, I certainly don’t expect them to. What I do expect from them is respect one’s interests and not turn it into a civil war.
This is just a small sample of what I’ve heard women say over the last years:
“You’re so immature, when are you going to quit playing magic?”
“My boyfriend plays with little boy cards”
“One day you’ll realize how childish it is playing magic”
I even heard the epic: “I allow him to play magic”, thank you mistress for allowing my friend to play with us!!!
Of course there are exceptions, there are women who play magic and love everything about it. There are even women who have a different attitude towards magic. “Why would I want him to stop playing magic? There are so many worse things he could be doing, let him have his fun with his friends”.
I know my writing these things won’t change a thing. Let people have their fun, they are not hurting anyone, whether they like playing games, reading comics or doing anything else that they enjoy and it doesn’t meet your standards.
P.S. My girlfriend doesn’t know about this blog yet :-)
