4c Sphinx Control (for the Current Standard) by Orgios

Anyone who knows me well, knows this, I love Sphinx Control... The affair started when I first saw Sphinx Summoner and Sharrum the Hedgemon, what a remarkable recycling engine! I thought...

Then came two players (Sascha Thomsen / Marcel Bauche) who took GP barcelona by surprise Day 1 with this beauty:

Vengeant White by Papasouzas

Hello guys! Christmas coming soon and the fact is that this period is a relatively magic-free one. So what you do when it’s hard to play paper magic? You don’t play magic at all? Nah! That’s not the right answer if you are an addict. Magic online is here for all of us to keep us company along with the Christmas turkey. So I am going to talk about a deck which is quite strong in a jund – boros – monored defined environment. These decks represent around 70% of the field in magic online. So the main board is tuned for them. To be honest I saw the idea in an article by Patrick Chapin and tested it and changed some of the cards that doesn’t seem to fit (many thanks to antonis fyssas for his help ). More test is required though and I’d like to hear the opinion of anyone who will give it a shot. So, here is the deck list:

PTQ San Diego Top 4, Report by Papasouzas

The sealed master Thanos Amarantidis (Papasouzas) added one more top 8 appearance to his bio. We hear all about it in his very interesting  and detailed report.

Finally, after weeks of “man write an article about block”, “what about this article for block” and “write this article about block” (a certain number of curses follow), I managed to fight my laziness and write an article about….a sealed ptq for Austin I played last week. An article about block will follow soon…I hope :P. Lets concentrate on our subject for today.

The ptq took place at Athens and had around 60 participants (can’t remember the exact number). I was lucky to have a pretty nice pool ,but here it is so you can judge for yourself.

Bant Aggro

Today we'll take a look into bant, tell you what we liked, didn't like and the changes we thought were necessary.

I was looking for something different to try (as always) and I knew I had found it when I saw the following list from Worlds:

Deck Tech - Aven Mimeomancer

He is the hottest card on the rise. If you're planning on playing aggro (bant aggro that is) , you are gonna be needing him . Trust me , you will see this guy beating face in upcoming tournaments. I suggest you get your playset soon as he is as cheap as it gets.

We're currently on testing grounds and will post our decklist soon.

FNM PROMO-January 2010

Wizards finally decided to give us a good T2 uncommon and a reason to play at FNMs. This makes me happy!

Titanic Rising...

We'll take a break from all the tier 1 / worlds decks to look into a deck a bit more fun with the potential of being competitive. The ultimatums were created to win you games the minute they resolve, cruel saw a lot of play, violent saw some while the other I win ultimatum, Titanic, saw none . Some will say its because we already have overrun, but players stopped using that also because of one card that made it impossible to get through, Baneslayer Angel. With Titanic even your 1/1s can take on the dreaded angel.

This deck thrives on card advantage since most cards are two for ones, with some even being four for ones. Let's take a closer look.

Worlds 2009 - A look into Jacerator

Today we'll take a look into the deck that went 6-0 at worlds (t2), talk about how brilliant it is and give you plenty of reasons why you should NOT play this.

Worlds 2009-First Impressions (T2)

There are certain things that catch your eye when looking at the cold stats of a Worlds Tournament. Certain things you like , certain things you dislike.

Let's start with the things I liked:

Emeria Angel: Yes!! She is the new angel on the block, she is the newcomer, a card that was underrated when it first was spoilt but she really gets her 15 minutes of fame and aims to get a lot more.

Drafting with Papasouzas-ZEN!!!

The first draft on this blog rightfully belongs to Papasouzas!!!
Let's see how he did...

Women and Magic

“My girlfriend doesn’t know I’m at the pre-release she thinks I’m at work”
“Whatever you do don’t tell her you play magic, tell her you have a hobby that she will never know nothing about”

These words came from the mouth of a friend, these word reflect a reality, my reality as well as others, probably yours too. Women have a tendency to discard magic as something useless, something little boys are allowed to play with but by any means not men.

Current Standard – Exploring The alternatives

So you are tired of seeing/playing Jund or Boros. You want to play something different competitive and fun (well... fun for you anyway). Today we'll take a look at the alternatives the current standard holds.

First we'll take a look into the last starcitygames 5k tournament

Notification

This blog will be written in English from now on. The idea is not to limit this blog to Greek reading players. Feel free to use the Greek or English language to comment.

Ideas or requests are welcome.

The spice must flow...

Mono White Control

For My first Deck List I couldn't choose anything else than this Mono White Control list that gave me my first big win at World's trials Thessaloniki.

The Deck is solid , and has a good matchup against Jund (I went 5-1 against Jund at that tournament), while Boros , Vampires and Pyromancer Ascension are really REALLY favorable.

So if your meta is infected with the above decks (and let's face it , it is :-) ) . I highly recommend trying this.

List is slightly altered by 2 cards (added the spheres) from the list that won World's Trial.

Deck analysis and tournament report can be found here in Greek.

Feel free to comment/judge or ask anything.

To blog μου...

Το παρόν blog ξεκινάει δοκιμαστικά λοιπόν με σκοπό άγνωστο μέχρι στιγμής.

Η αρχική ιδέα είναι να ποστάρουμε εδώ ιδέες για magic the gathering, deck lists, tips κτλ.

Cheers...
